Team Summary
The IT Disaster Recovery Manager plays a crucial role in preparing Staples for crises by ensuring the technology supporting critical business functions is resilient and recoverable. This position works collaboratively across technology siloes, engaging with architects, development managers, project managers, and QA teams, to establish and maintain disaster recovery as a foundational capability throughout the enterprise.
Role Summary
The Manager, Cyber Security – IT Disaster Recovery is responsible for designing, implementing, and communicating disaster recovery plans that safeguard company data, databases, information systems, and technology. This role manages the enterprise-wide disaster recovery test schedule, coordinates with IT professionals for DR test execution and documentation, and aligns recovery strategies with organizational priorities.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Identify critical applications and systems, develop an enterprise-wide disaster recovery test schedule, and collaborate with IT professionals to prepare, execute, and document DR tests.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders, regularly communicating the importance of disaster recovery.
- Work with leadership to develop, implement, and maintain a forward-looking IT Disaster Recovery strategy and program.
- Integrate disaster recovery goals into change management operations and the systems development lifecycle.
- Partner with the Business Continuity Manager to provide ongoing DR awareness training and reinforce familiarity with DR procedures, roles, and responsibilities.
- Conduct operational review meetings with key stakeholders, manage scope and track metrics, benchmarks, milestones, and budgets across programs and projects.
- Identify, prioritize, and drive resolution of program-level issues, leveraging lessons learned to mitigate systemic risks.
- Coordinate resources for maintaining an operational DR program and ensure restoration plans for mission-critical applications are developed and tested within specified timeframes.
- Deliver timely and accurate status reports on program operations, financial health, and present updates to various stakeholder groups.
- Participate in risk/threat vulnerability studies and impact assessments, leading deep dives on key initiatives.
- Collaborate with business units and development teams to plan mitigation efforts, continuity recovery strategies, and ensure aggressive management of resources, dependencies, risks, and constraints.
- Ensure technology platforms have appropriate backup and off-site storage strategies to support program goals.
What You Bring to the Table
- Dedication to supporting associates during disasters or crises, ensuring business continuity and critical item delivery to customers despite interruptions.
- Experience working with application owners to create and execute disaster recovery setups and tests.
- Knowledge of IT systems, enterprise applications, infrastructure, data center operations, and cloud services.
- Familiarity with industry-recognized frameworks (ISO-27001/2, NIST CSF), attestation standards (SOC 1/SOC 2, AT-101), and disaster recovery standards (ISO 22301, ISO 24762).
- Preferred: Project Management or Six Sigma certifications, industry certifications such as CBP, CDRP, CDRE, CBCP, MBCP, and experience with ServiceNow, Jira, and disaster recovery planning tools

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; or high school/GED with strong relevant experience.
- 7-10 years of experience in Information Systems or a related field.
- 2-4+ years leading a Disaster Recovery function in a complex, multi-system environment across multiple data centers.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years in a management role or leading cross-functional projects.
- Project Management or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certifications.
- Industry certifications: CBP, CDRP, CDRE, CBCP, MBCP, or similar designation.
- Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, and Disaster Recovery planning tools.
- Familiarity with Information Security and Business Continuity frameworks and standards.
- Ability to ensure compliance with business continuity regulations, contracts, and best practices.
- Deep discretion and strong independent judgement, especially when discussing sensitive and confidential topics across the organization.

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
